Lightning Fires of 2008

I wanted to crochet this doily ever since I saw it on HGTV's craft website. I contacted the lady that crocheted it and she helped me find the pattern. It's an old pattern printed in a 1992 book named Pineapple Parade by American School of Needlework, featuring Yalanda Wiese's collection of five doilies. This one is named "Pineapple and Webs" and it's 26" in diameter. I was lucky to have found the book for sale on E-bay! Click here to see a larger image..

Paul & Pauline Buttress will celebrate their 5th wedding anniversary on June 19, 2009. This doily struck my fancy as the perfect gift to make for their special occassion. The doily was created by Cylinda Mathews and is available for sale on in the Wedding / Bridal section of her CrochetMemories.com website. Click the image to see a larger image of the doily.

Into everyone's life a little mistake must fall. Isn't this a pretty little mistake? Yep, it sure is a mistake alright. That cute little thing is not supposed to have seven-points, it's supposed to have eight-points, but it was so cute that I kept it anyhow. Even a mistake has its special place. Come to think of it, Mom always said I was the "mistake" and my baby sister was the "accident". Hummm....

This spiral doily with the spider-web pattern squares was an easy doily to make. I first saw the pattern at Christmas time and the center reminded me of a poinsettia and the spider-web squares looked like snowflakes. I guess it must have been the eggnog that caused the illusion! This measures 21" wide and there is a bigger picture for viewing if you click here.

This 26" doily adds a warmth to the pine and glass coffeetable.

My first attempt to crochet the "filet" style. A series of open, and filled, squares creates a pixelated image. This one is an image of the famous 'Fleur de lys'. It measures 12" wide by 14" high. I learned that my gauge needs to be modified and a friend suggested that I use a hook that is one size larger. To see larger image of the Fleur de lys doily, just click here.

I created this pattern for Lynda Canning, my husband's first wife. She and I refer to each other as 'Wife in Laws'. I enjoy her children and they enjoy being able to visit their parents in one home, mine! Lynda said that I've "stitched their family back together" and I cannot think of anything that is more valuable than a family. This pattern is availble for sale at CrochetMemories.com, with my portion of the proceeds (75%) going entirely to the Hospitaly House Shelter in Grass Valley, CA.

This delightful treat measures 15" across and took 3 weeks to finish. I didn't have a pattern for this doily, only an image. Click here for a larger image. (2.2 MB). Did you notice the owl lamp? I made that at a ceramics class in 1981. It is a mold made of plaster. All I did was paint it. I liked it from the first minute I saw it, but had no logical place for the lamp.... until now!! It's an owl ahead of its time!

Measuring 10.5" across, this doily is delightfully lovable. Christmas, Valentine's Day, a birthday, or any occasions would serve as a good reason to give this as a gift to someone you love.

Contrasted with a red table cloth underneath, this off-white pineapple doily decorates our kitchen table. Right, I know what you're thinking: "Kitchen table, doesn't it get dirty?" No, it doesn't get dirty because there's a quarter-inch piece of tempered glass on top of the table. The doily is about 3-feet across.

I made this doily about 20 years ago. I had tucked this doily away and just recently put it on display. I wish I knew what I did with the pattern. When I have a day, or night, with nothing to do, I'll look through my crochet pattern collection. This doily measures 20" across.

This is a Russian crochet pattern and thankfully it was accompanied with a 'symbol' chart, too. Normally, crochet doilies have an even number of points, this one has seven points. It was well documented on the symbol chart and it measures 16" across.

Here is the companion black doily. Lovely! I have made these for my two friends, Carol Fish and Cathy Wilcox-Barnes for Christmas 2007. We refer to ourselves as the "Three Seas Group". I sure hope they like these.
